 Project Information

The total net area of 30,000 hectares identified by previous studies to be irrigated by the Dadin-Kowa Dam Reservoir comprises of 6,600 hectares under Dadin –Kowa Lot and 23,400 hectares under Guyuk Lot. The Dadin-Kowa Lot covers Gombe and Borno States while the Guyuk Lot covers Adamawa and Borno States.

However, over the years, the irrigation development stopped at the 100 hectares’ pilot scheme due to poor funding for the completion of the main canal and further development of the Dadin –Kowa Scheme.

But in June, 2014, the World Bank approved a facility of 495million US Dollars for improved irrigation management in selected large-scale public schemes in Northern Nigeria. The Project code named “TRIMING (Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria) Project”, has Dadin –Kowa as one of the beneficiaries. The Project Development Objectives is to improve access to irrigation and drainage services and to strengthen institutional arrangements for integrate water resources management and agricultural service delivery in the selected schemes

Presently, the TRIMING Project is undertaking the design and construction of 3.000 hectares under Dadin-Kowa scheme as well as the full Feasibility Study and detailed design of Guyuk Scheme for a possible Public-Private Partnership(PPP) arrangement.
