 Project Information

Kiri Dam is situated on Gongola River near Kiri town in Shelleng LGA of Adamawa State. North Eastern Nigeria. The Dam is approximately 25km upstream of the confluence with Benue River at Numan bridge.

The purpose of the Dam is to impound sufficient water during the months of high river inflow to meet the irrigation needs of Savannah Sugar Company LTD of 12,000ha. During the dry season which generally extends from November to June each year.

In 2010, a feasibilty study for geberation of hydroelectricity of about 20MW capacity by USTDA and the authority whereby public private partnership (PPP) is under process.

The Dam has been of great benefit to the immediate communities and the Nation in general, beside increased fishing activities, dry season farming is being practiced by most communities upstream of the Dam. Presently a 50 hectare pilot irrigation scheme for graduate youth employment program (GYEP). The project has a potential of about 400ha along the Kiri Dam reservoir owned by the authority.

Kiri Dam is very important to the country and Savannah Sugar Company Ltd, in particular who are presently the main beneficiary. The proposed hydro Power components will enhance Electricity supply to this zone. This will encourage small and medium scale enterprises thereby reducing unemployment.
